Captain's Log
I have always been a maker of things. Words, mostly. Poems scribbled into notebooks. Stories. Essays. Books. Writings that became lyrics and found their way into songs. Eventually, photographs, performances, media, and stories told alongside other artists.
But somewhere along the way, I realized I wasn't only interested in making art. I was interested in making possibility. I love the moment when something doesn't exist yet, when there is only an idea, a question, a collection of seemingly unrelated pieces, and then, slowly, a pattern begins to emerge.
Sometimes that pattern becomes a poem. Sometimes it becomes a photograph, a song, a book, a film, or a story.
And sometimes it becomes something people can step inside: a publication, a program, a creative space, a business, a community, an entire ecosystem built around the question, What if we tried this? I don't experience those things as separate forms of creativity.
To me, they are all acts of making.

My work is deeply interested in people and the strange, beautiful complexity of being human: what we survive, what we believe, what we question, what we lose, what we build, and what we become along the way.
I am especially drawn to the connections hiding between things that don't appear connected at first; the places where story meets science, faith meets doubt, grief meets joy, structure meets imagination, and one person's experience unexpectedly reaches another. Maybe that's why I have never been very good at staying inside one medium. There are too many ways to tell a story.
So I write them, photograph them, speak them, help other people tell them, and sometimes, I build places where entirely new stories can begin.
Some stories are written. Some are lived. Some are built.
